About MotherDuck

Don’t let the quirky name fool you! We’re on a mission to radically transform the data analyst user experience. We empower and delight analysts using a novel cloud architecture built on top of DuckDB, an open source foundation with a vibrant community. Our team is a diverse mix of passionate, collaborative and empathetic data industry veterans from Google, Amazon, Meta, Snowflake, Looker, SingleStore, Databricks, and the like.

What you will do

The Ecosystems team at MotherDuck ensures that our platform can be seamlessly integrated into our customers' preferred data stack. Our work is as varied as our customers' use-cases—from crafting performant integration libraries to collaborating with external teams building notebooks, pipelines, and orchestration systems that rely on DuckDB. We’re often the first to explore how new tools and technologies fit into real-world data workflows, which means we get to shape how MotherDuck is used in the wild. If you enjoy working at the intersection of product, infrastructure, and partner enablement, you’ll feel right at home here.

This is a hybrid role based out of our New York City office

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain high-quality APIs and integrations with data tools like notebooks, ELT pipelines, and orchestration systems.

  • Collaborate with ecosystem partners to help them build integrations with MotherDuck.

  • Identify common patterns across customers and partners, and advocate for features or tooling that make integration easier and more robust.

  • Troubleshoot bugs across the stack, from head-scratching edge cases to high-impact user issues.

  • Use your experience from integration work to unblock and teach other engineers and our support squad.

  • Dive into new tools, frameworks, and problem spaces with curiosity and a learning mindset.

What you bring

  • Experience building software and chasing bugs in the real world.

  • Experience with data analytics tooling (ELT, transformation, BI tools) preferred.

  • Familiarity with relational databases like PostgreSQL or DuckDB.

  • Proficiency in at least two of the following languages: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Rust, C++, or Java.

  • Comfortable working independently and knowing when to ask for help.

  • A thoughtful approach to solving ambiguous problems and identifying emerging patterns in user needs.

  • Clear, kind communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Degree in Computer Science or related preferred

What people should be saying if you’re doing ducking awesome

  • "When something breaks in a weird way, they’re the first to jump in with a repro or insight that no one else has seen yet."

  • "They’re always asking great questions that make us think about the bigger picture."

  • "They make partner integrations feel effortless—even when the tech is anything but."

What we provide

  • Feather-ruffling compensation – competitive salary and stock options so you have a stake in our flock’s success.

  • Top-notch healthcare coverage – 100% paid medical, dental, and vision for employees, plus 80% coverage for dependents (because we care about your whole nest).

  • Flexible PTO – take the time you need to recharge, explore, or just have a lazy day by the pond.

  • 401k plan – because even ducks need to plan for the future.

  • Legendary company events – we bring the whole flock together twice a year for unforgettable summits in fun locations, plus 1-2 team gatherings a year to keep our bonds strong.

  • Hybrid work environment – Spend three days a week in the office collaborating with the flock, and work from wherever you’re most productive the rest of the time—whether that’s your home office, a coffee shop, or a peaceful lakeside retreat.

Please Apply

Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified? Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.
