About MotherDuck
Don’t let the quirky name fool you: At MotherDuck, we’re on a mission to make data warehousing fun, frictionless, and ducking awesome for developers and data practitioners building blazing fast internal and customer-facing analytics experiences. We're building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB, working hand-in-hand with the creators of the fastest-growing and fastest-improving query engine on the planet. Unlike other databases, MotherDuck was architected to unify local development with cloud operations to bridge the gap between software and data engineering workflows. Our team is a mix of thoughtful, passionate, and empathetic data industry veterans.
What you will do
At MotherDuck, we’re building the future of cloud-based data analytics with DuckDB at its heart… and we know that great products start with great people. As we scale our engineering flock, we’re looking for a Technical Recruiter who brings curiosity, creativity, and a healthy dose of resourcefulness to the art of hiring.
This isn’t your typical recruiting role. You’ll be joining a high-agency, unorthodox team that values autonomy, experimentation, and thoughtful execution. You’ll own and shape how we attract and engage exceptional engineers (and occasionally non-technical talent) while crafting candidate experiences that feel personal, transparent, and one of a kind.
We’re looking for someone who blends deep sourcing expertise with strong candidate management instincts and an AI-first approach to process optimization. If you thrive in ambiguity, move fast without losing the details, and genuinely love building relationships with exceptional humans, we’d love to talk.
This role can be based in our Seattle (preferred), San Francisco, or New York City locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and drive full-cycle technical recruiting for our Engineering and Product teams, while flexing into other functions (GTM, G&A) as hiring needs evolve.
Build creative, data-informed sourcing strategies that uncover talent in unexpected places and engage candidates with thoughtful, personalized outreach.
Partner closely with hiring managers to define success, shape interview processes, and make data-driven hiring decisions.
Curate high-touch candidate experiences that reflect our values of Agency, Thoughtfulness, Flexibility, and Unorthodoxy.
Leverage AI tools and automation to improve sourcing, outreach, scheduling, and insights… freeing your time for the human side of recruiting.
Track metrics, analyze pipeline data, and surface insights to continuously improve our approach.
Contribute to our growing employer brand through events, content, and community-building.
What you bring
3+ years of experience as a Technical Sourcer or Recruiter, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
Proven ability to build and maintain technical pipeline: you can find, engage, and close engineering talent across multiple specialties.
Demonstrated success owning full-cycle searches, from intake to offer, across technical and non-technical functions.
Deep understanding of startup dynamics and the type of talent that thrives in high-autonomy, fast-moving environments.
Strong communication skills and high EQ: you build trust quickly and maintain it through clarity and follow-through.
A creative, unorthodox sourcing mindset: you know when to use LinkedIn and when to go off the beaten path.
Resourceful, high-agency approach to problem solving. You find ways around roadblocks instead of waiting for instructions.
Curiosity about tools, systems, and AI: you experiment with ways to work smarter, not just harder.
What people should be saying if you’re doing ducking awesome
“They somehow make even the toughest search feel like smooth sailing.”
“They're the hiring manager whisperer, always two steps ahead with thoughtful insights.”
“Candidates rave about them. Even when we didn’t extend an offer, people said they’d recommend us to friends.”
“They’re a connector. Half our best hires came through their network or referrals.”
“They move fast, never drop a feather, and somehow still find time to write great candidate updates.”
What we provide
Feather-ruffling compensation. Competitive salary and stock options so you have a stake in our flock’s success.
Top-notch healthcare coverage. 100% paid medical, dental, and vision for employees, plus 80% coverage for dependents (because we care about your whole nest).
Flexible time away. Take the time you need to recharge, explore, or just have a lazy day by the pond.
401k plan, because even ducks need to plan for the future.
Legendary company events. We bring the whole flock together twice a year for unforgettable summits in fun locations, plus 1-2 team gatherings a year to keep our bonds strong.
Hybrid work environment. Spend three days a week in the office collaborating with the flock, and work from wherever you’re most productive the rest of the time. Whether that’s your home office, a coffee shop, or a peaceful lakeside retreat.
Please Apply
Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified? Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.
