Job expectations
You’ll be joining Oilcan as an early employee, with a primary focus on the infrastructure, integrations, and backend interfaces between Hotpot and external systems. We believe that comprehensive, full featured integrations are a critical part of Hotpot being useful. Reliability and quality are key features; you’ll bring rigorous and defensible decision-making into your work to ensure we exceed our user’s expectations.

- Design, build, and deliver high-quality, maintainable, highly available systems and features.
Who you are
We are looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements listed below, and exceeds in areas that will stand out and bring new skills and capabilities to our growing team. We are specifically looking for a candidate that is comfortable doing traditional SRE tasks as well as green-field API-oriented software development.
Hotpot is a remote-first company, but is limiting roles to US-based candidates that are authorized to work in the US.
Minimum requirements
- 5+ years of experience working as an SRE or Software Engineer, with general familiarity with AWS and Terraform.
- Familiarity with on-call programs and structure.
- Experience building (or heavily using) complicated RESTful APIs.
- Have an appreciation for “boring” technology, with experience in the internals of well-established open-source frameworks (e.g., React, Rails, etc.).
- Motivated to solve deeper problems over superficial papercuts, but you know the balance between the two without needing external advice.
- Experience working with other disciplines (academic researchers, technical writers, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Compensation and benefits
This role's annual US base salary range is $150,000 - $200,000. This salary range is inclusive of several roles at Oilcan, and will be narrowed during the interview process based on several factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. This is a US-only position.
