Applied NLP Scientist
Teleskope
About Teleskope
Teleskope is building the future of data security. Despite enormous growth in awareness and investment in data security, most companies still don’t know where they are storing sensitive information and how to secure it. At Teleskope, we’re building a modern and developer-friendly data security platform to automate data security and privacy at scale, from detection to remediation.
About the role
Teleskope is looking for an Applied NLP Scientist to play a critical role in the evolution of our data classification pipeline, which powers our data security and privacy platform. In this role, you will lead the development of NLP systems that operate on unstructured text and other data modalities, with a strong focus on Named Entity Recognition (NER) and data classification.
You will support and evolve our existing multilingual and English NER models while ensuring scalability, accuracy, and adaptability to new domains. This role involves maintaining multiple models for different data types, working with massive datasets, and building production-grade ML infrastructure that supports fast and reliable inference.
This is a high-impact, in-office role based in NYC where you’ll collaborate across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
What you’ll do
Own and evolve the Teleskope data classification pipeline across multiple data modalities (e.g., unstructured text, documents, tables, images).
Develop and maintain NER models, including English-specific and multilingual systems.
Apply modern NLP techniques for structured information extraction, text classification, clustering, and summarization.
Define and build processes for model evaluation, validation, and continuous monitoring.
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate ML models into customer-facing systems.
Stay on top of research and best practices in applied NLP and contribute to the evolution of our ML architecture.
What you bring
4+ years of experience in applied NLP.
Demonstrated success building and deploying NER systems and working with unstructured text data in production.
Experience working across the ML lifecycle: data preprocessing, model training, evaluation.
Solid grasp of regular expressions and SQL for data manipulation.
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related field—or equivalent experience.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
-
Must be based in New York City—this is an in-office role.
What you'll get
A chance to shape the future of AI-powered data security at an early-stage startup.
Direct impact on solutions that power the data privacy stack for leading enterprises.
A collaborative culture with smart, driven colleagues.
Competitive compensation and meaningful equity.
Full health, dental, and vision insurance + 401k with generous company contribution.
A beautiful, well-stocked office in the Financial District.
Flexible PTO and hybrid work days.
What we value
At Teleskope, we value technical excellence, practical execution, and a strong sense of ownership. We’re looking for team members who bring domain expertise and a passion for shipping impactful ML solutions that meet real-world privacy and security needs.
