Forward Deployed Engineer
Warp
Warp: We're Building the Platform for Agentic Development
Warp began with the vision of reimagining one of the fundamental dev tools—the terminal—to make it more usable and powerful for all developers. As AI has advanced, Warp has evolved beyond its terminal roots into the platform for Agentic Development: a workbench for dispatching agents to code, deploy, and debug production software.
With over 700k active developers and revenue that has grown over 20x this year so far, Warp is now one of the fastest growing startups in the exploding AI development space. We believe that soon developers will be “tech leads” for groups of agents; rather than opening a code editor to write code or a terminal to write commands, they will open Warp and prompt their computer to build features, fix bugs, and diagnose production issues.
With its starting point as a reimagined command line, Warp is well-positioned to support agent-first workflows: It sits at the lowest level in the dev stack, has access to all of a developer’s context, and is set up for multitasking and long-running processes. In addition, Warp has state-of-the-art code editing features and built-in team knowledge sharing. It’s the right interface for the agentic future.
Our mission has remained the same even as AI has advanced: to empower developers to ship better software more quickly, freeing them to focus on the creative and rewarding aspects of their work.

Why This Role?
Warp is building a full platform for configuring, programming, deploying, and interacting with Ambient Agents—AI agents that run in the background, automatically, without requiring constant user interaction. These agents can integrate with Slack, Linear, Jira, GitHub Actions, and other developer tools to automate everything from bug triage and test generation to code maintenance and incident response.
We've designed our platform with flexibility at its core. Enterprise customers can choose from full-service Warp-hosted solutions (where we handle everything from Slack integrations to infrastructure) all the way to fully self-hosted deployments where customers run Warp's CLI on their own infrastructure. The challenge? Every enterprise has different security requirements, internal tooling, and use cases—and we need someone to bridge the gap between our platform and their unique environments.
As our Founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll be the first hire dedicated to making enterprise implementations successful, turning promising pilots into production deployments that drive real business value.
As a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you will...
- Own end-to-end enterprise implementations: Build ambient agents inside enterprise customer environments, working directly in their infrastructure to prove out business value.
- Build customer-specific integrations: Create GitHub Actions that run ambient agents with customer style guides, Jira bots that trigger locally-hosted agents, Slack integrations that let teams @mention Warpy to fix bugs or run workflows, and whatever else customers need to make ambient agents work in their stack.
- Accelerate deals through technical execution: Turn pilot conversations into signed contracts by removing the implementation burden from customers who say 'this is great, we just don't have time to build it.'
- Partner closely with Sales from discovery through implementation: Join customer calls from the very first discovery meeting to understand their technical environment and identify opportunities for ambient agents. Be the technical voice that helps scope what's possible and builds confidence in our solution.
- Translate customer learnings back into product: Work closely with Engineering to share what you're learning in the field—which integrations should become first-party, what's blocking faster implementations, and where our platform needs to evolve. Your customer work should make the next implementation easier.
You may be a good fit if...
- You're a strong customer focused engineer. CS degree or equivalent experience. You'll go through our standard software engineering interview loop because you need to be able to build production-quality solutions, not just advise on them.
- You have FDE-equivalent experience. This might be a formal Forward Deployed Engineer role, or you might be an early engineer or founder at a startup where you worked closely with GTM and did pilot implementations for enterprises. The key signal: you've built custom technical solutions for customers, not just internal products.
- You're an excellent communicator who can sell the vision. You need to articulate Warp's vision for ambient agents in a way that gets enterprise engineers and executives excited. You're not just building—you're convincing people that this is the future and they should be part of it.
- You have high EQ and can navigate enterprise relationships. Working with other companies' engineers requires a different approach than internal collaboration. You know how to be amenable, patient, and constructive even when things aren't set up the way you'd prefer.
- You thrive in ambiguity and can figure things out. This is our first FDE role. There's no playbook yet—you'll be building it as you go. You're excited by that, not intimidated.
Bonus...
- Experience with AI/LLMs and agentic systems
- Background in developer tools or infrastructure
- Experience with Rust or Go
At Warp, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. So if you’re excited about this role, but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in this job description – we encourage you to apply anyways! We are a community of curious learners, and most of us are learning some skills for the first time (like our engineers learning to program Warp in Rust). You might be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Salary Transparency
Total compensation at Warp consists of two parts: 1) a competitive base salary, and most importantly, 2) meaningful equity.
When we find the right person, we try to put our best foot forward with an offer that excites you. We consider what you'd like to be paid, the skills and level of experience you bring, what similar jobs pay, and make sure there's equal pay for equal work among those you'll be working with. The budgeted compensation amount for this role is targeted at $200,000 to $235,000
In addition to salary, all employees receive further compensation in the form of equity in the company. This is a meaningful stock option grant with a four-year vesting period and one-year cliff. Comparing startup equity is always a bit tricky, so we're happy to walk you through different valuation scenarios at the offer stage in order to help paint a clearer picture of the upside.
Final total compensation is determined by multiple factors including your experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
